CSTAG is an evidence-based and comprehensive school threat assessment methodology. This full-day training provides participants with an in-depth understanding of the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) and practical skills for implementing an effective, evidence-based threat assessment process. Designed for school administrators, counselors, psychologists, social workers, school resource officers, and other members of a districts multidisciplinary threat assessment teams, the training emphasizes assessment, violence prevention, early intervention, and student support.
Participants will learn the foundational principles of CSTAG, including how to distinguish between transient and substantive threats, conduct structured threat inquiries, and apply decision-making protocols that prioritize safety while avoiding unnecessary exclusionary discipline. Through case examples, guided practice, and discussion, attendees will strengthen their ability to assess risk, and manage concerning behaviors from a threat assessment perspective. It also allows for districts, schools, and teams to develop consistent practices that allow for continuity across process from building to building using best practice methodology.
The training also focuses on building and sustaining effective threat assessment teams, clarifying team member roles, ensuring documentation and follow-up, and aligning CSTAG practices with school policies and legal considerations. By the end of the day, participants will leave with a CSTAG manual (and know how to use it), practical tools, increased confidence, and a clear framework for implementing or refining CSTAG threat assessment practices within their school or district.
