Participants will: 1) be introduced to Margarita Calderon's categorization of different types of ELs (eg.LTEL; SIFE, etc); 2) gain an understanding of Jim Cummins' two kinds of language proficiencies: BICS and CALP; 3) be provided an overview of the SIOP Model, the GLAD Model and the Voice 21 & University of Cambridge's Oracy Framework; 4) learn the importance of promoting a school-wide culture of academic language, particularly in the era of the Common Core; 5) comprehend the role of the principal and other administrators in facilitating the success of EL.
