This course will support the efforts of school leaders to understand the importance of facilities in the educational process. Facilities impact student achievement and these factors will be highlighted throughout the course. Design Thinking is a critical component in the process and will be an instrumental part of the course. The Design Thinking component will demonstrate ways to engage the community and all stakeholders in the planning effort. In addition, cost implications of facilities projects will be addressed including budget, schedule and scope. Finally, the course will address the maintenance associated with building ownership and how design decisions today can affect the long term costs over time.
